The Power of Patterns to Unlock Your Family

What is your partner's love language?

Words of affirmation? Acts of service? Physical touch?

Many people are aware of what their partner’s love language is but oftentimes, they don’t realize how powerful this is in parenting.

Observing how they react when they are disappointed or in those moments when they’re “over the moon” with joy?

... It’s important to take a moment to really see and “get” them.

In this blog, we will show you how you can find heartwarming secrets within your family by observing, listening, and understanding PATTERNS that have been there all along.

The GOAL is to make your home a place where everyone feels SEEN, HEARD, and LOVED through the power of observation.

So, if you've ever wondered what makes your family tick or how you can turn "I don't care" into "I totally get you," stick around.

We'll talk about recognizing family patterns, understanding them, and MOST of all, accepting them.

Understanding Patterns

Understanding someone's patterns is like learning the dance steps of their life.

You know, the cha-cha-cha of their daily routines, the tango of their emotional ups and downs, and the electric slide of their quirks and habits.

I mean, who doesn't want to dance?

Chris and I had this epic discussion in our recent podcast about the importance of knowing your partner's patterns. And in the midst of our banter, Chris dropped this gem of wisdom:

"If you can understand the patterns of someone you love, then you have a little bit more empathy and can also help them navigate so they can become more self-aware than the next person."

And maybe you're wondering...why is it so important?

Well...picture this.

You're in a relationship or even a friendship, and you're constantly stepping on each other's toes. Ouch! It's like an awkward dance-off where nobody's winning.

But when you understand their patterns, you suddenly know all the choreography. Now, you can avoid hurting your toes and glide smoothly on the dance floor of life. Smooth, right?

When you know someone's patterns, you can step into their shoes and feel what they feel.

It's like having an emotional twin connection. You finish each other's sentences and share inside jokes without speaking. You become the Batman to their Robin, the peanut butter to their jelly, the yin to their yang.

In a nutshell, understanding someone's patterns is the key to harmonious relationships, deeper connections, and superhero-level empathy.

Recognizing Your Partner's Patterns

What made you love your spouse?

Was it their looks? Sure, physical attraction often sparks the initial interest. We're all human, after all! Those captivating eyes, the way they smile, their contagious laugh – they may have been the irresistible bait that lured you in.

Their smell, perhaps? Ughh. The power of scent. Isn’t it amazing how a whiff of their perfume or cologne can transport you back to that moment when you fell head over heels in love?! But hey, just keep in mind that the beauty of love lies beyond skin-deep.

But let's not stop at the surface.

Character and heart are where the real magic happens.

It's the way they make you laugh until your sides ache…

It's the way they hold you close when you need it most…

It's the way they support your dreams, even the wild ones…

It's their kindness, their quirks, their empathy, and the way they make you feel like the most cherished person in the world…

BUT HERE'S A MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION…

What are the other things you do to keep your relationship STRONG and POWERFUL?

Sure, you and your spouse love each other. But we have to do the deep work of learning to love beyond just the feeling of love…

Recently in our podcast, Chris shared that we learn ourselves by studying our spouse. And he nailed that one! Because relationships are like a puzzle, and your partner is ONE BIG, BEAUTIFUL PIECE OF THAT PUZZLE.

So, when you start studying your partner, it's like you're figuring out how that piece fits into the grand picture of your relationship.

I mean, think about it. We all grow and change over time, and so does our partner. To keep in the loop about who they are, simply pay attention to their habits, what they love, what they don't, and all those charming quirks.
And you learn their love language, too. Are they all about those sweet words, quality time, acts of service, physical touch, or receiving gifts?

To top it off, it's not just about knowing them, it's about showing them that you know them.

You know what makes them tick, what makes them smile, what makes them feel valued. And vice versa. When you both take the time to get to know each other and embrace the little things that make you unique, that's when your connection becomes truly special and unbreakable.

Navigating Your Children's Patterns

Remember when they were little and all they needed was a bottle and a diaper change? Yeah, those days are long gone.

As they grow, their needs, wants, and quirks evolve faster than you can say "teenager."

By tuning into their unique patterns, you can become the Sherlock Holmes of parenting – solving mysteries like, "Why does Jimmy mumble 'fine' when I ask how his day was?" Next thing you know, you're decoding those puzzling teenage texts that seem to be written in some secret emoji language.

And you know what's been echoing in my mind ever since my chat with Chris on the podcast? It's the moment you suddenly get hit with the realization that your relationship with your child, as it has been, might need an overhaul. Ouch, right?

It's like someone just turned down the music at a party, and you're left wondering, "What's going on?"

I mean, we all love those days when you and your little ones are inseparable pals. In fact, I still do everything to get into their world, what is fun for them, and fight for that connection with them and the time I have left with them just so I can show them that what matters is that we’re together.

But times change and it becomes more and more important to learn to navigate your children's patterns.

As your children grow and change, so do their patterns of behavior, interests, and communication. By paying attention to these evolving patterns, you can adapt your parenting approach accordingly.

When you do this, it changes the game. Many parents don’t adapt and a huge rift begins to form between the parent and their child. It’s heartbreaking to see. The child wants more than ever to be connected (yes, even the teenagers) but the parent hasn’t learned the new dance that they’re dancing.

The truth is, there's no universal fit when it comes to parenting.

The Power of Acceptance

To build a deep connection with your kids, it’s soooo vitally important that we do the deep work to make sure that we’re not trying to force them into a box that we think they need to fit into.

It’s powerful to remember that, much like a fingerprint is uniquely special, so are your children in their own way. It's in the acceptance of these individual quirks and patterns that we truly find the power of our relationships.

Fact is…the power of accepting your loved ones for who they are, right WHERE they are, lies in the profound impact it has on your relationships and your own well-being. Letting go of the need to mold someone into your ideal image creates a space for authenticity and growth.

You give them the freedom to express themselves, to evolve, and to feel valued for who they genuinely are.

Conclusion

One of the powerful things Chris said on our podcast episode was that one thing that makes a great business better is knowing that your home is also getting better. Couldn’t agree more!

Because I firmly believe that success starts at home.

As James Edward McCulloch said, “No other success can compensate for failure in the home.”

It’s such a strong statement but one that guides us to look at home FIRST. One great way to do that is to start at dinner time. Bring these conversation starters to dinner and get to know each other better. You can discuss thoughts and dreams that will help form lasting bonds.

And if you're hungry for more insights and inspiration on how recognizing patterns can make your family even closer, don't forget to check out my podcast episode with Chris. We explore this topic further, sharing stories and tips to help your family grow stronger.

Remember, your family in and of itself is a unique pattern, a work of art that evolves with every shared moment. 💛m
