The Art of Being Intentionally There For Our Kids

Doesn't it sometimes feel like we're chasing our tails…

Working endless hours…

And still missing out on those priceless moments with our kids?

Those little giggles, the first bike ride without training wheels, or just snuggling up for a bedtime story. It's like we're constantly juggling work, life, and a million other things, but somehow, spending quality time with our kids often slips through the cracks.

Hey there, fellow parents! If you've ever found yourself looking at your child and thinking, "Where did the time go?" or feeling guilty about not being 'there' enough, you're definitely not alone.

We all struggle with this balancing act – wanting to provide the best for our kids while also being the best for them.

So, what if I told you that there's a way to be more intentionally present in our kids' lives?

I'm not talking about grand gestures or flipping your life upside down. I'm talking about the small, everyday moments that build the bridge to a strong, lasting bond with our little ones.

If you're nodding along and thinking, "Yes, I need this in my life," then you're in the right place!

No to Screens, Yes to Dreams!

You've probably heard me go on about how big of a fan I am of screen-free time with our kids. I hope you're not sick yet because I'm going to talk about it again.

First off, screens are everywhere. Phones, tablets, TVs - it's like a digital buffet. And sure, they're super handy (hello, GPS and food delivery!). But when it comes to our kiddos, it's a whole different ball game.

→ Less screen time means more space for creativity!
→ It's all about balance, like enjoying a slice of cake but not the whole thing!
→ Every moment they're not glued to a screen is a chance for a new adventure in the real world.

In my recent podcast, I talked about this awesome idea from Allie. She's a pro at this screen-free stuff! She uses a "Busy Box" filled with paints, puzzles, books, crafts – you name it. The goal? To spark that creative fire in our kids.

Allie's kids absolutely love diving into their Busy Box. Imagine little explorers discovering a treasure chest. And the best part? No screens in sight! They're using their hands, their minds, their imagination. They're creating, exploring, and learning - all without a digital crutch.

As parents in this digital age, we should let our kids touch, feel, and experience things, not just swipe and tap. Because paints, puzzles, and crafts are not just playthings. They're tools for learning and growth. Sure, it's always a mess. But trust me, the messier, the better!

But don't get me wrong, I'm not saying screens are the villain. They have their time and place. All I'm saying is let's give our kids a buffet of experiences – not just digital ones.

Anyway, speaking of busy boxes, I also know another box that works wonders. Enter the Aro Box, a home device that's like a digital peacekeeper. It's perfect for guiding a digital detox. Imagine this: your phone slips into the Aro Home's embrace, and poof! It's signing off from the constant dings and pings of the virtual world.

What I adore about the Aro Box is it records the time spent offline. This little feature encourages a healthier, more balanced tech diet.

→ Aro Box is like a timeout for your tech.
→ It encourages real interaction, not virtual.
→ Plus, it's kind of fun to see how much offline time you can rack up!

Combining the idea of a Busy Box for the kids with the Aro Box for the whole family, we're creating a home environment that values presence over pixels. It's about being there, really there, not just in body but in mind and spirit too.

Out of the Comfort Zone and Into the Fun Zone with Allie 🏂

They say becoming a mom changes everything. And it does, but there's this part they don't always mention – the identity shift, or should I say, the identity shake-up.

Diapers, feeding, cuddles, the works. But in the whirlwind of all that, sometimes, we kinda lose track of who we were before the babies. It's like you're not just 'you' anymore. You're 'mom', and that's a whole different ball game.

And this isn't just me or you; it's a universal mom thing. We all go through it, each in our own way. It's like joining this big, invisible club where everyone understands without saying a word.

Also, I realized that:

→ Motherhood isn't about losing yourself; it's about discovering yourself – with a plus one (or two, or three).
→ It's about finding joy in the chaos and adventure in the everyday.
→ And hey, it's totally okay to miss the old 'you' sometimes. We all do. But trust me, the new 'you' is pretty awesome too. 😉

Allie also shared in the podcast that before kids, she was all about her job. She even cut her maternity leave down to two weeks. Can you believe that? Work was her world. But then, something clicked. She realized that maybe, just maybe, there was more to life than meetings and deadlines.

Her kids became her wake-up call. They literally pulled her back into the world – the real, adventurous, beautiful world. She started working less, and started living more and more.

We're talking skiing trips, backpacking adventures, you name it. Allie and her kids are out there making memories, exploring, laughing.

So, to all the moms out there feeling a bit lost in the motherhood maze, remember, you're not alone. We're all in this together, redefining ourselves, one baby step at a time. And who knows, maybe your little ones will lead you to your next big adventure. After all, life's a journey, and there's no better travel buddy than your kiddo! 🌟

The Final Bow

No matter how you slice it, being there for our kids is the real deal. It's not just about being physically present. It's about diving into their world, understanding their giggles and tears, and just... being there.

Because when we look back, it's these moments, these little slices of everyday life, that'll mean the most – to us and to them.
In the end, it's not about perfect parenting (is there even such a thing?).

Just be present, make memories, and show our kids that they matter. More than our jobs, our phones, or our busy schedules.
And hey, speaking of being there for our kids, why not join Allie and me on our podcast? We dive deep into the joys of screen-free time, the journey of rediscovering ourselves amidst motherhood, and the art of cherishing every precious moment with our children.
